If you happen to own an Android phone and think that your smartphone battery usage is too high and that it is draining too fast, especially after using Instagram, your suspicions would be right. Google has confirmed that this was indeed the case.
Thus, even if you have the bad habit of doomscrolling, and especially if you enjoy countless hours of watching what many refer to as brainrot content, it was not your fault after all, so you can forgive yourself.
A Google community manager says that Instagram's new update, build 382.0.0.49.84, has fixed the bug that was causing Android phones to lose battery quickly. Aadil Shaikh, the Google Community manager who shared the update, wrote the following on a new "announcement" post on the Google Support community forum titled "Battery drain on Android devices."
Hi Android Community,
Starting today, Instagram is rolling out an updated app that should fix a battery drain issue on Android devices. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app (build 382.0.0.49.84) to resolve this issue.
Unfortunately, Google has not exactly specified which phones were affected by this bug or whether it was every Android phone out there. A quick look around reveals that Samsung Galaxies were affected, or at least the S24 model (via Reddit). Some of Google's own Pixel devices were likely affected too.
You can get the latest Instagram update for Android by heading straight to the Google Play Store app.
